It has been a while since I have been back to celebrate my birthday in the land of my birth. Our island knows best how to throw a fun and yum party!
Our sister is the best hostess with her household staff skillfully trained to set a creative tablescape with thematic setting, beautiful floral arrangements, and a bountiful spread. Nom nom nom!
The garden has been lush and luscious from regular light afternoon rains that started in June. Birds happily flit around filling the cooling air with a delightful symphony of birdsong and trills.
We are further surrounded by loud and constant chatter punctuated by hearty laughter and family tall tales repeated for emphasis. Fondly enhanced and embellished for dramatic effect. The lack of accuracy glossed over in favor of better story telling.
The rest of the week unfolds in a bright ribbon — celebrating among close friends, new and forever. Rehashing the past, planning projects, prospecting possibilities. Crammed with food, lavish settings, gratifying entertainment.
Barrio fiesta. Generations gathering. Family and friends reunited. Occasion to celebrate another orbit. These are the best elements of a home grown birthday bash. Happy Birthday to me!
